A few years ago Dr. Diane Harris asked me what, in life, I was passionate about. I had a very difficult time coming up with an answer and began carefully considering the question. A few months later my church, Shiloh in Oakland , CA , challenged us to get involved in small groups to read/discuss the Purpose Driven Life. I hosted a singles group in my home. Because we were meeting in the evening, I decided to offer a meal. The response was tremendous and it encouraged me to do my very best in the proceeding weeks. I felt through reading the book and allowing others to speak into my life, I was beginning to find my purpose.
In early 2004, a friend had a mastectomy and I went to assist her for a week. Upon taking her for a routine check-up an older gentleman came into the doctor?s office with homemade fudge for the staff. I felt that it was a thoughtful way to show appreciation. A few weeks later I was awaken in the middle of the night with a strong urge to make my own candy and from it, Nutty Butter Toffee was born. When I had finally developed it into what it currently is, I decided one Friday evening to put it over popcorn. I felt like I had a hit! To avoid eating it all I began giving it to family and friends. Shortly after, my church challenged us to further find our purpose through The Purpose Driven Community. I joined a women?s group hosted by Dr. Shannon M. Stanton. Shannon wanted to provide a meal as well so to alleviate some of the burden, I offered to provide the dessert each week. Because our meeting took place in the Fall I decided to make caramel apples. They were a huge hit and I was encouraged by the group to begin selling my products. Shannon showed by example, she was my first customer, the first investor and one of my biggest supporters.
Sing Praises has experienced tremendous growth spurts and continues to be a labor of love. This passion is evident in each product and with the consistent attention that goes into each order.
